well, the time has come. i've debated this idea for a long time, and am now finally doing something about it...and saying goodbye to Pitas. so go here if you're looking for my blog. and update your bookmarks and all that. whee; i'll now have commenting capabilities, individual entry linking capabilities, and all that sort of lovely goodness. *sniffles* Pitas is nice, but it'll be nice to have comments, too, as i am a most talkative and interactive h0. XD janaki last shot off her big mouth at 1:34pm CST on Tuesday, 26th February 2002 okay, time to spread the love around. for a start, this morning i *heart* Jae. not only did she send me wonderful soundtracks of 3v331 (in which she had far too much fun for anyone's good, especially my own...XD), but it's also courtesy of her that i've now just seen the first episode of Read or Die, and will be able to watch the second later on. now, as much as i'd wanted to see this, i'd sublimated all thoughts of it till after i'd seen it, and so i didn't know much except it had to do with a librarian and an obsession with books and a girl with really neat powers. whee, that really narrows it down. XD didn't even know her name. highlight the following for spoilers; additionally, for anyone interested who didn't already know, i found fun wallpaper from R.O.D. here. yes, it's a Tripod site. consider yourself warned, if that sort of thing bothers you. XD first reaction? "oh *no*...her name is NOT 'Yomiko Readman'! it is NOT. XD i HAVE to show this to my sister. absolutely HAVE to." and on it went from there. i've only seen the first episode now, but thoughts? i like the character designs, and the music...and the CG stuff is integrated nicely with hand-drawn stuff. overall, the production is very top notch. the music is great, too...particularly the opening theme. bits of the BGM remind me of music from "Time Crisis," if you've ever played it (whee, Namco). i haven't looked up seiyuu yet, but a few sound familiar to me...will report more on that later. Miss Deep is pretty cool, though i was really worried about her code name until it was shown *why* she got that code name. XD (i was expecting her to run around misquoting Nietzsche like so many uber-pretentious high-schoolers i knew...--;;;) and i really need to shake this Draco fixation (hah), cos Joker really reminds me of him. character-design-wise. grownup, of course. XDand on that note, i leave you with this, which i know FioFio will definitely find amusing, and which i also know Jae and most other people who read this will find amusing as well. that is, unless you've seen it already. (and as a note, should mention to my sister that she should send pictures of her art to this. they apparently accept tattooed library assistants too, so she counts! ^^) janaki last shot off her big mouth at 9:41am CST on Tuesday, 26th February 2002re: Barney douche...and i suppose you thought that the Sunkist commercial just wasn't bad enough, eh? XD XD XD _O_ [UPDATE: Tuesday, 26th February at 9:49am...oh feck. look what you've done. "how does it feel when you're douching in the sun...you should really try Sunkist...you know that it's the one..." _O_] and it seems something has safely made its way to FioFio. good. _O_ sleep. now. 'night... janaki last shot off her big mouth at 10:13pm CST on Monday, 25th February 2002 dearest, most wonderful, excellent, all-knowing, all-seeing Harper Colophon Books: i would have no problem with your existence whatsoever. really. except that it's dreadfully hindering my ability to find things to do with The Colophon: A quarterly for booklovers. perhaps this is because i am searching stupidly, and will come to realise this fact sometime in the not-too-distant future. but on the chance that it is not, i would like to register the fact for the moment that (in a childish fit of rage) i do verily hate you and all that you stand for. much obliged, a frustrated search-oriented individual janaki last shot off her big mouth at 12:14pm CST on Monday, 25th February 2002 *poings* Re:Movement is currently on its way to me. it got shipped out on Friday. which is when i ordered it. go CD Quest! ^.^ and Jae, how do you like the live stuff? i still need to get that; i really really want live "Atmosphere" and "Isolation". *.*;;;; more later, after i read blogs. i haven't heard more about driving school yet; will prolly post about it when i do. it looks as though the course will be pretty intensive, 2 hours a night Monday-Thursday for about a month. but if all goes well, i should then actually be able to drive...a necessity if you live rather far from the city, as i do now. >.<;;; this really would've been so much easier had i learned when i was 15 or so, like everyone else. but there's really no point to driving in the city...you don't *need* to, and in fact are usually much better off NOT driving in the city. grah. but oh well. i will master this, dammit! i WILL! and then i will be very, very happy. and no one will have to schlep my arse around to anywhere (including my own band practice...--;;;) anymore. ^^ (and if i fail miserably, i will have wasted a damn lot of money. and time. perhaps this is the kind of pressure i need? o.o;;;) yeah. more later. janaki last shot off her big mouth at 9:34am CST on Monday, 25th February 2002 dearest most darling and wonderful Beeru-chan in the whole wide world...it's working now. sorta. 'cept it appears that i'm no longer Pure Evil, as we had once surmised...i am instead merely myself. ...but isn't that enough to qualify for the PE tag? i think it might very well be. *insert raucous, evil laughter here* (seriously though, a thousand times thank you for all your help and support, etc, etc. *glomps Beeru-chan* ^^) bwee. i think i'm going to driving school. more on that later, probably tomorrow or Monday. oh, and i bought "Video 5 8 6" after all. it's interesting. academically. wanktastically. or something. XD also, the people at Bisnation wrote me back; turns out the single for "Protection" was pushed back due to Big Day Out! so while the Australian single might be available for import in the US, you couldn't actually buy it in Australia until next month, cos they thought it wouldn't sell so well due to the glut of merch flooding the market that's to do with BDO. o.o;;; weird. thoughtful though, i guess...hope it sells well for them. ^.^ janaki last shot off her big mouth at 7:27pm CST on Saturday, 23rd February 2002 this is all Shinji's fault. it's pretty great. go look. janaki last shot off her big mouth at 1:49pm CST on Friday, 22nd February 2002 say, any of you people with experience in this arena: what would you recommend as far as purchasing a domain name? as i've never done before, i would greatly appreciate any and all advice you would be willing to give me. e-mail me if you've got advice/info/etc. you want to share. and i'll be eternally grateful and thankful...^^ hell, if we could find a way to do it, i'd be happy to send nummy baked goods your way...^^ janaki last shot off her big mouth at 1:30pm CST on Friday, 22nd February 2002 Bis mentioned on their site that the Australian single release of "Protection" wasn't supposed to happen till March. yet i found it at a local record store yesterday. o.o;;; i'll feel really bad if i somehow got it before, uh, Australian fans...>.<;;; but more than likely it's just some sort of weird mistake. like Return to Central being released in the UK long before Bis had said it was supposed to be. ^^;;; at any rate, there's a remix of "Robotic (Just Last Week)" that's on it that's QUITE good. also of note is a cover of Pete Shelley's "Telephone Operator" that's really fun. there's another b-side called "Sound of Sleet" that's also on this disc, should anyone be curious. also gave in (as is so typical of me these days) and ordered Re:Movement, this tribute to New Order done by a bunch of Japanese indie bands. Jae and Fiona have been quite fond of Color Filter's cover of "Regret" for some time now, i know. and i got a couple of interview discs yesterday (yes, cheap. XD). cos i'm goofy in the head. also saw "Video 5 8 6" yesterday and after some thought, didn't grab it. but i probably will today, cos i know i'll probably not find it again if i don't. XD as i've said before and will say again, this is why i could never be a hardcore drug addict. i spend all the money i have (and some i don't) on music. and sometimes books, comics, and anime. so i don't have time for anything else. XD other random thought: ever hear smut read by a computer? you should. it's pretty funny. even beats the time my sister and i were baiting this rather primitive version of one of those computer readers where you type up a document and it reads it to you? we kept feeding it things like "Buddha." smut's even better though. XD janaki last shot off her big mouth at 11:54am CST on Friday, 22nd February 2002 the Bis tribute to Factory Records is due out next month, but can be preordered from Optimo (Espacio) right now. included will be covers of "Shack Up" (A Certain Ratio), "Looking from a Hilltop" (Section 25), "Hurt"(NO), and "Love Will Tear us Apart" (do i really have to elaborate on this one?). cost is £5; shipping to the US is unfortunately £4.90 on top of that. >.<;;; it'll also be available from janaki last shot off her big mouth at 2:59pm CST on Thursday, 21st February 2002 i'm such a shameless sl0re it's not funny. XD (well, i *could* do without the 3rd season. what with my severe distaste for Emma Hollis and all. XD but man. all we ever got here was a rental-only version of the pilot and "Gehenna" [which yes, i do own, thank you very much]...) and i suppose there's no need to bring up the excellently beautiful Japanese Twin Peaks LD boxes either now, is there? XD oh, and i did Research. Dune was only released on LD here in the format and pressing that i have. yicky. however, there's a GORGEOUS Japanese LD box that has both the theatrical release AND the so-called Alan Smithee version. *snickers* maybe someday. it doesn't move me *that* much. XD and i wasn't hallucinating...Heathers WAS released on a widescreen LD in the US. with commentary and trailers and stuff, too. just have to find out if Lumivision is generally worth it or not...though if i can find it cheaply, i won't care too much as long as it isn't utter shit... ...and really, i'm such a snob, aren't i? i blame Spaz. cos i wouldn't really have known about LDs prior to knowing him. he helped shape me into the LD snob i (sorta) am today. XD janaki last shot off her big mouth at 3:19pm CST on Wednesday, 20th February 2002 i'm listening to Macross Pluss:OST II right now. and once again being reminded that Kanno Yoko is completely unbelievable. dear god. she's so fucking brilliant, it almost makes me cry. and realise that i need my Please Save My Earth soundtrack back from Neko-kun... and speaking of things that make me cry, forgot to mention that i tested out the LDs i bought yesterday. and i take back what i said about Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. no, not the bits about it being widescreen and CAV...indeed, it most certainly is. but the bits about it probably looking like ass since it's a Warner Brothers disc...dead wrong on that count. shockingly enough, it's absolutely GORGEOUS. there are a *few* speckles here and there, but they're very very few and far between. and you're pretty much guaranteed to get speckles unless you've got a Japanese-pressed LD (quality control is where it's at, kiddies...take note. XD). and with anything from BtAS, of course all the visuals are really dark...even moreso if you're watching something letterboxed. so you're DEFINITELY going to notice and you're DEFINITELY going to be driven that much more insane if the pressing is bad and there are speckles all over the place. but this disc is stunning. it had me in tears, it was so beautiful. i haven't been moved to tears by beauty in quite some time...not to sound too particularly hard or anything, but to be truthful. i am SO glad i went back and got this exchanged. the Criterion Collection edition of Monty Python and the Holy Grail is sadly, more of a disappointment. granted, i know the film has and had some issues, and i've NEVER seen a perfect print of it anywhere, so i knew that no matter how perfect the pressing was, it was bound to have issues. but alas, for the pressing was a bit wonky too...and thusly, the beginning of the first side is rather depressing to watch. however, the commentary track is entertaining (though i have yet to listen to it all), and the Japanese dub track...oh my god. just to amuse myself (well, that's why i bought this disc anyway, so...XD), i skipped ahead to the chapter where the Knights who say "Ni!" show up. cos, you know, stupid pun? yeah. wanted to see how they'd dubbed it. and while i'll never be a fan of dubs in general, for reasons i believe i've stated before (and over and over and over)...i have to say this. quite obviously, the dub is hilarious. but what's more impressive is that the voices chosen match REALLY well. of course they aren't going to sound British...that's not the point. but the actual tones of the voice actors they chose match REALLY well. i'm highly impressed...and as with other dubs i've seen in other languages, it seems that the US mostly does the worst when dubbing things from other countries into its own national language. rather sad, really. will have to watch it entirely in Japanese and will give further comment at such time as that occurs... the version of Dune that i got sucks ass. SO PAINFUL to watch. almost worse than watching a tape in EP! O.O;;; it's *that* screwed up a disc. ick. i'd also grabbed The Addams Family and Addams Family Values because they were quite cheap ($8.99 and $9.99, respectively), and because they amuse me more than they should. AFV looks great and is widescreen; tAF looks alright, but as the one i bought is pan-and-scan and there WAS in fact a widescreen release, i think i'll have to get my hands on the widescreen one instead. at a later date, though...it's not an imperative matter or anything. XD but those movies were SO well cast...well scripted...it's amazing to think about how many things could've gone wrong, but DIDN'T. then again, i've always had a soft spot in my oh, and i got Heathers as well. proof that once upon a time, Winona Ryder was amusing. as was Christian Slater, though i never quite understood why everyone thought he was so hot. cheap LDs...beauteous thing. it's sad that they're cheaper than new CDs now, though. >.<;;; but good for me, i guess...particularly since i get most CDs used ('cept for ones from that pesky import single fixation of mine...XD). hafta check and see if that was ever released widescreen, though...i *think* it might've been, but it won't kill me if not. the pressing's okay...not great, but it's a pretty old disc. it looks better than my VHS copy, and that's all that matters as far as this movie's concerned. XD one thing that sucks, though? the cover art for the LD is HIDEOUS. i know it's pretty par for the course with the company that put it out and the time frame, but the pose and positioning and even the *font* of the word "Heathers" look far too much like "Dirty Dancing" for my comfort. Spaz actually was the one to point this out, and i shuddered mightily when he did so. >.<;;; oh well. more work, and seeing if other versions of Dune were ever put out on LD. (side note: a Criterion Dune would kick ass. as long as it's done like their Ghostbusters was...with all the nice storyboards, special bits about the model making and special effects, etc. and perhaps we could see the gigantic multiple-condom-innards brain up close and personal! yes...i have a problem...i know. oh, and Kyle MacLachlan before he lost his mind. wheeee... XD) janaki last shot off her big mouth at 2:16pm CST on Wednesday, 20th February 2002 sometimes i think that it might be best just to give up on trying regular verbal means of communication entirely, and do it all in song. not turning life into a musical, per se...but just communicating via the semi-obscurity (well, allegedly in comparison) of well-placed song lyrics. might be a whole lot clearer, y'know? (don't mind me; i'm just reverting back into high school me. just need my amp back so i can play my guitar properly.) janaki last shot off her big mouth at 9:55am CST on Wednesday, 20th February 2002 no, Jae, i didn't neglect to tell you that. i simply found it on a different single than Sabina did. in fact, didn't know it was also on that single, so we both learned something new. XD i could *swear*, however, that i told you it was on the special tour version of the "60 Miles An Hour" single, UK release. and that i found it at Virgin for $7.99. remember? i was all excited cos it was SO good and it wasn't spensive at all, especially for an import single (and goddamn, do i have enough imports to be able to comment on such things..._O_). and if you think that's good, wait'll you hear the version of "Temptation" from that particular Reading Fest. god. i've wanted to go to that for YEARS...would be sheer exhaustion, but so much FUN. maybe someday. XD but i didn't neglect to tell you; i just found it cheaper. actually, Virgin by me had a couple more...you want? perhaps i could make a trip up there... [everything within these brackets is ADDED at 10:05 am CST on Wednesday, 20th February 2002...just so you know. at any rate, now that i went and looked to see what was on the Japanese import of "Crystal", i may well have to purchase it after all. live versions of "Atmosphere", "Isolation" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart"? O.O;;; dude. they sounded really good during that Australian show. and those are all really good songs. they really should just release a recording of the whole set from Reading '98, i think. XD] more (perhaps) after i read more blogs. temptation waits. heh. for now, i leave you with lyrics to another song, cos oh am i feeling it right now. no, i don't want to discuss. >P It doesn't take a lot to confuse me...I'm not aware of the passing of time. And I'd like to say to those who accuse me, Could you do it while you looked in my eye? If you hold a primitive notion And if you think you'd like to try You can drink this magic potion And you can do it till the day that you... ...day that you die. I've done it before and I'll do it again. A judgement of life that I'll burn till the end. How can it be that we're so far apart? I want it to feel like it did at the start. I'm doing my best to confound you; Your behaviour is so volatile. Not even a zoo would impound you; Don't look at me with your critical smile. Well, I've been driving in the wrong gear... It's been a long and lonely ride. It's been winter for a whole year, but you couldn't hurt me if you tried. I've done it before and I'll do it again. I'm charged with a life that'll burn till the end. How can it be that we're so far apart? I want it to be like it was at the start. I've done it before and I'll do it again. A judgement of life that I'll burn till the end. How can it be that we're so far apart? I want it to feel like it did at the start. I've got a message that I need to send; It's coming to you straight from a friend. I want you see what's inside my heart: I want it to be like it was at the start. janaki last shot off her big mouth at 9:09am CST on Wednesday, 20th February 2002 oh, and it doesn't help my mood any that i'm missing a Swedish radio broadcast of an NO concert recorded earlier this year right at this very moment...;.; janaki last shot off her big mouth at 1:02pm CST on Tuesday, 19th February 2002 well, hrrmph. i do believe my sister is taunting me. would you like to know why? it's quite simple, really. she's in the UK right now (flew out on Friday, actually) and having a wonderful time with her mom. i hadn't heard from her since she left until just a few minutes ago, when an e-mail arrived in my inbox from her saying, "scotland rules! just thought you might like to know!" you see? she IS taunting me. and i don't have to take this sort of abuse. *sniffles* that's it; i'm picking up my toys and doing home. *bursts into tears* janaki last shot off her big mouth at 1:00pm CST on Tuesday, 19th February 2002 as some members of the band weren't too happy with Blogger, the band blog has now disappeared into the ether. however, in its place, we now have a bulletin board...which is much better suited to our purposes anyway, i think. (plus, Shinji_-kun is having lots of fun playing around with PHP, so there you go. XD) should anyone be interested in popping in, feel free.so, went back to Reckless yesterday and exchanged my discs. hadn't realised that Batman: Mask of the Phantasm was both CAV AND widescreen! score! only downside is it's a Warner Brothers disc, so it's therefore guaranteed to look sorta shitty...;.; no way to avoid that with BtAS, though...=P also picked up some other things, which perhaps i might've been too hasty on. (note to self: must check to see what kind of releases of Dune there have been on LD, as you may well have bought the crappiest one you possibly could...--;;;) mostly justified it to myself by saying "hey, i haven't been here in two years!" and also saying "hey, i wasn't going to buy much at Acen anyway, probably." now i *definitely* won't be buying much there. XD nut DUDE. Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Criterion edition...the absolute most brilliant, amusing thing about it (besides the commentary tracks, of course) is that the analogue track is the JAPANESE DUB. O.O;;; now, let's stop to consider that for a moment. Monty Python. dubbed. in Japanese. _O_ mind, i hate dubs with a passion...when taking them seriously. but with something like this, how could i? therefore, i think it'll be highly, highly entertaining. and not a waste of $19 at all. XD i'll let you know what i think once i've watched it...XD have a two-hour training session in about 20 minutes. but i've got Mountain Dew Code Red, so it's all okay. oh, and BTW Jae, i think we got that mouse you were talking about yesterday. the one with the glowing red bottom, that doesn't have a ball in it? made by Logitech? it's REALLY cool. much better than the cheaply made POS that calls itself a Micro$oft mouse. and less spensive, too! i like this mouse muchly. too bad we've got crappy M$ mice at work...=P janaki last shot off her big mouth at 9:44am CST on Tuesday, 19th February 2002 back at work today. ;.; so sad, so sad. but it's not so bad. have lots of music to listen to and lots of cold water, so it's pretty good. have to go back to Reckless after work today, cos they gave me the wrong LD. i tried to buy Batman: Mask of the Phantasm from them, but they instead somehow gave me both discs (and the Batman movie is only one disc, mind) of the PAN AND SCAN version of Return of the Jedi. O.O;;;; first question is, um...two discs vs. one. hrrm. second is, how the hell does their filing system work, cos there's NO way, no matter how you file it, that those two movies should ever be together. not with the amount of other LDs this store carries. ...and third is...*why* did someone feel the need to press the PAN AND SCAN version as an LD? O.O;;; CBS/Fox obviously had no clue about their audience. i can see doing VHS of that version, fine. i know some people have issues with letterboxing. (granted, i can't *understand* this, but i know it and accept it and avoid those versions like the plague for myself, in general...XD) but generally, most people who gave enough of a shit to go out and get an LD player and to get LDs aren't the sort of people who would be very likely to buy pan-and-scan versions of their favourite movies...at least, not when widescreen versions are available. i'm sure there's a few here and there who would, but probably not enough to justify doing a whole gigantic special pressing of them, y'know? o.o;;; weird. also need to run off copies of some sheet music for the band tonight and scan those up. exciting and fun, ne? need to practice my arse off too...more to get lyrics than anything. i already know the music pretty well; just need to get the lyrics down and i'll be set. i know most other people wouldn't even notice if i flubbed them (a fact i've proven many times in the past, much to my chagrin...--;;;), but it matters to *me* that i get them right. so nyah. XD perhaps more later. for now, water, gum, Electronic, and work. XD it's such a happy life, i tell you. _O_ janaki last shot off her big mouth at 1:16pm CST on Monday, 18th February 2002 You could make my dayWhat did I do anyway?
